The Dingle Cricket Team - Ben Farr
Written by LorcanThe Irish Cricket Team continues to go from strength to strength. Last month they won the World T20 Qualifying Tournament in the United Arab Emirates to book themselves a place in the prestigious T20 World Finals. By lifting the trophy they moved to 8th in the T20 World Rankings, ahead of some stalwart cricketing nation such as the West Indies, and Ireland's highest overall ranking in their history.
Provincial cricket across the nation is also on the rise with new teams popping up in every region. This year the Kerry Twenty20 League will feature teams from 5 different towns with the addition of a Kilcoman (near Killorglin) side to its ranks that already features sides from Dingle, Tralee, Ballybunion and last year's winners Killarney.
The Dingle Cricket Team (The Dingos) are now into their sixth year. We have managed to reach the Kerry Final in all five seasons of the League's existence, winning it on three occasions. We are looking for big improvements this year under the guidance of new captain Mark Munday to hopefully bring the silverware back west once again.
We are always looking for new players to swell our ranks (having last year gone into some games with just seven men) so if you have any interest in trying out one of the fastest growing sports in Ireland please feel free to come along to one of our training sessions held in the town park every Tuesday night (weather permitting) from 6:30pm. You don't need any equipment or any previous experience, we will teach you everything you need to know.
