Dingle Minors retained the West Kerry Minor Championship in Páirc an Ághasaigh by beating An Ghaeltacht on a scoreline of Dingle 3-10 to An Ghaeltacht 0-6. Dingle led from start to finish against An Ghaeltacht who were missing a few regulars from their starting team.
Within the first ten minutes of the game Dingle had notched up 1-3 to no score for An Ghaeltacht. Gareth Hickey Brosnan, Tom O’Sullivan and a free from Conor Geaney their point scorers, the goal coming from Tomás Sheehy who made no mistake when Conor Geaney put him clear. Séamus Ó Muircheartaigh for An Ghaeltacht kicked a fine point to get them on the board but Dingle’s roving wing back Tom O’Sullivan responded with his second point to leave the score Dingle 1-4 to An Ghaeltacht 0-1 after 15 minutes of the game.
Séamus Ó Muircheartaigh scored a point from a free for An Ghaeltacht and their keeper Seán Ó Lúing made a great save to deny Dingle their second goal. Aidan O’Connor scored a point from play and Cathal Bambury with a point from a free kept Dingle ticking over. Séamus Ó Muircheartaigh scored another point from a free for An Ghaeltacht and they were unlucky shortly after when the upright saved a PJ Mac Láimh shot goalward bound. Half time score Dingle 1-6 to An Ghaeltacht 0-3.
An Ghaeltacht started the second half a lot better and a shot from Brian Ó Murchú was blocked by Tom Leo O’Sullivan for Dingle. Séamus Ó Muircheartaigh added to his tally with another converted free and midfielder Rob Ó Sé kicked a fine point to narrow the gap. An Ghaeltacht will rue not putting more scores on the board in this purple patch but great defending by Dingle’s Tom Leo O’Sullivan, Conor O’Sullivan and Mathew Flaherty denied them more often than not. After 15 minutes the score board read Dingle 1-6 to An Ghaeltacht 0-5.
Dingle’s second goal came from a Gareth Hickey Brosnan shot that was brilliantly saved by An Ghaeltacht keeper Seán Ó Lúing but he had no time to recover when Conor Geaney was first to pounce on the rebound and fist the ball to An Ghaeltacht’s net. Séamus Ó Muircheartaigh responded for An Ghaeltacht with a point but this was to be his sides last score of the game.
With Barry O’Sullivan and Mark O’Connor exerting control in the middle of the field Dingle added points through Conor Geaney with two, Tom O’Sullivan and Cathal Bambury with one each. Dingle substitute Liam Brosnan making no mistake from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the square to score Dingle’s third goal and final score of the game. Derry Ó Murchú of the West Kerry Board presented winning Captain Mathew Flaherty with the West Kerry Minor Shield and Mathew in his speech praised a gallant An Ghaeltacht Team and thanked his teammates and management team for all the hard work during the year. The West Kerry Cleaners Man of the Match was awarded to Dingle’s Tom O’Sullivan. So a great year for Dingle Minors and Manager Paul Fitzmaurice who added the West Kerry Minor Championship to the County Minor Championship and the County Minor Football League Division 1 titles this year.

The West Kerry Senior Championship Final between An Ghaeltacht and Dingle takes place in Gallarus this Saturday the 29th of November at 2pm. An Ghaeltacht will be hoping to build on their U21 success this year and stop Dingle from retaining the West Kerry Championship.
