2011 was a very successful year for the tidy towns group and volunteers, a lot of work done. 2012 will be another year of hard work to improve our village for ourselves, visitors and to enter the Tidy towns competition once again. The last entry was in 2003.
September 2011
In order to access funds for the village enhancement it was nessessery to put the group on a formal footing and to this end the follow was done:
Name of the group changed to Annascaul Tidy Towns Action Group (ATTAG) as it is self explanatory
Insurance obtained for group
Registered with revenue commissioners
Tax clearance cert obtained and tax exemption
A application made to SKDP to obtain a grant to commission a consultant to carry out three year plan for the village
An AGM was held on the 19th September in the community centre, a committee was formed at that meeting. A Constitution was drawn up for the group and agreed at the meeting. The financial details were distributed.
The following committee members were nominated and seconded at the meeting:
Mary Ward - Chairperson
Miriam Dennehy - Secretary/Treasurer
Geraldine Walsh
Fr John Buckley
Trevor Percival
Noel Spillane
October 2012
An application was made to South Kerry Development Partnership (SKDP) for a grant to engage a consultant to draw up a three year plan for the village.
A meeting of the ATTAG was held and planning for the next year was the focus.
A volunteer 2 hour session was planned for the winter once a month on a Saturday. This idea did not have a good turn out due to weather and volunteers with other weekend commitments and it was decided not to carry on. We will wait until the spring to get the great volunteer “meitheal” going again.
November 2011
Fundraising took a jump as the organisers of the Beerfest weekend held in August gave the funds raised to the Tidy Towns group, all of €3000. It was brilliant and thanks again to the organisers. This allowed us to engage the consultant straight away when grant approval from SKDP was received
On 21st November Frank Donaldson, consultant came to the village and met with two members of the committee in the morning. He then spent the rest of the day touring the village and formulating his plan. In the evening he had a two hour meeting with the whole committee and gave guidance and advised on all aspects and focus of his plan proposal.
Spring bulbs were put down in planters at both ends of the village and are now starting to raise their heads.
December 2011
A village Christmas tree was funded and festive bows put on planters at the end of the village.
The draft three year village plan from Frank Donaldson was received by all members of the committee and feedback given to him to finalise the document. Annascaul village plan is nearly completed and will be available shortly for perusal by the general public.
Fundraising is ongoing and we will kick off in 2012 with the annual Quiz in Hanafin’s pub on Friday 17th February 2012. Schedule of fundraising events will be carried out throughout the year and donation boxes are placed in public places in the village and all monies are welcome.
The Annascaul Tidy Towns committee would like to wish everybody a happy, prosperous and peaceful 2012.
We look forward to your cooperation during the year.
